Fire damages winery in the Ribera del Duero
On the night of the fifth of September lightning struck martín berdugo, a well known winery in the Ribera del Duero. The building housing our offices, the laboratory, our wine crafting equipment and our vats were destroyed by flames and smoke.
Fortunately, no one was injured and although it hurts emotionally the fire was only limited to our production building. The cellar where we store and age our wines was untouched by the fire, as were our precious vines in the vineyard.
We still have some wine available and we're ensuring the upcoming harvest goes smoothly, to craft wines at least equal to our previous great vintages, even though we'll need to move off site for the 2013 harvest.
From the moment the flames took hold, the martín berdugo family came together even more resolute to produce exquisite Ribera del Duero wines in 2013 and long into the future. True, we hit a speed bump no one envisaged but our resolve and passion for martin berdugo wines is as strong as ever.
Many of you, our friends and fans, have been in touch by mail, facebook, twitter and phone. You've shown support, kindness and compassion throughout the martin berdugo time of need. We sincerely thank you from the heart of the Ribera del Duero. We truely appreciate every thoughtful word of encouragement received in past days. Help us further by taking this opportunity to raise a glass of martín berdugo at your table, in a restaurant, bar, hotel or wherever a good wine fits!
