Celebration in the Ribera del Duero

Ribera del Duero, walk in the vineyard
Martin Berdugo rises like a phoenix from the ashes

On the 30th of November 2013 Martin Berdugo threw a party to thank everyone who supported us and helped us get back on our feet after the lightning strike of September the fifth caused a fire in our winery. We were overwhelmed by support we received from other wineries in the Ribera del Duero. We also used the occasion to announce the winners of the fifth edition of our Micro Relatos competition.

Due to our exceptional circumstances we had to delay the announcement of the winners, and for this we sincerely apologize to all contestants.

The winner of Martin Berdugo’s V Micro Relatos competition, selected by a panel of members of the Escuela de Escritores de Burgos, was Luisa Redondo Pérez, from Barcelona, with her text “Respuesta”

“Se desmaquilla, destierra el reloj y el móvil al cajón de los calcetines, recupera prensa atrasada y se recuesta en el sofá con una copa de vino. Sonríe y piensa que debe recordar este momento cuando le pregunten qué es la felicidad”.

Given the high level of participation and the quality of the entries this year, we decided to also give an Honourable mention to one of the finalists, selected through votes on our Facebook page. This honorable mention was won by María del Carmen San Martín López from Valladolid with her text “Remembranza”.

“Sonrío… Son recuerdos de una frasca de vino olvidada en una mesa, una mano infantil en busca del rojo tesoro, y una voz que se alza desde las sombras: ¡los niños no beben vino, que se les pone el ombligo azul! Mi réplica no se hizo esperar: abuelo, ¿de qué color lo tienes tú?”

The party started on Saturday afternoon with a stroll through the vineyard on the Banks of the Duero, then a visit to the winery followed by a tasting of Martín Berdugo wines. That evening the celebrations moved to La Colmena Musical in Aranda de Duero, where we could all enjoy and dance to the music of La Musgaña y Cormac Breatnach. There we announced the winners and raffled bottles of wine and other gifts for the participants.

We had a wonderful day, it was great to see so many friends around us and to thank you all for the support and help we got over the past three months.

We hope to have another party soon when we inaugurate our new production building, and would love to see you all here again.
